Tom Gorton has 40 years experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury litigation. He has tried cases in every county in the Greater NY Metropolitan Area, including the Federal Southern and Eastern Districts, and has argued numerous published appeals in both the First and Second Departments of New York’s Appellate Division. He is well versed in all areas of personal injury law from construction site accidents (Labor Law) to products liability, premises liability, third party claims, and motor vehicle accidents, to name a few.
As a mediator, Tom brings his knowledge of the law, his experience valuing injuries and his practical experiences as a litigator to the table to assist the attorneys in settling their case. While Tom is always ready to offer his opinion in confidence regarding the value of a case, he understands the file belongs to the attorneys and not to him. He believes his function is not to rule over the case but rather to assist the attorneys reach a resolution of the case. It is often said that a good resolution means everyone is unhappy. Tom disagrees – he feels a good resolution occurs when everyone feels some level of satisfaction with the result.
